An Appliance based System whose aim is to secure Data and Computer Systems in an organization from a hacker or an unauthorized/malicious user. It provides policy-based approach for detecting and preventing the unwanted access to Computer Systems and modification of its associated data.

The components of the Project are:

  • Agents (iAgent)

It is a piece of software which will be written in the form of Kernel Modules along with its User Space counterpart. It will run on End user systems, Servers, Laptops or any other computer system which is a part of the organizational network.  Its main job will be to receive the policies from the controller and apply it on the computer system and take the necessary actions accordingly. Necessary actions include (but not limited to) denying unauthorized installation, opening, reading, writing, execution and deletion of a file. 

Different type of platforms and architectures will add complexity to Agent software. Mostly organizations have Windows and Mac based laptops and PCs but backend machines are a combination of IBM AIX Servers, Linux Servers Oracle Solaris Servers and/or any other Unix Variant servers.

Agent will be developed for following types of systems. 

  1. Application Systems:
    • Windows Desktops and Laptops
    • Mac Desktops and Laptops
    • Linux Desktops 
  1. Backend Systems:
    • IBM AIX Unix based servers
    • Oracle Solaris Unix based servers
    • Linux based servers having multiple distributions such as RedHat, Ubuntu etc.

  • Controller

This piece of software will reside on the Appliance. It will be basically a web-based management console which allows (but not limited to) policy creation, policy management, multi factor authentication, and event notifications.

  • Notification Service

This is a messaging framework which will take place between Agents and Controller in the event of any policy breach. Notifications such as email based notification or logging into a file will be provided by this service.

Notification service will run on Agents and Controller both. 

  • Appliance (Hardware)

It will be a customized linux based system and residence of Controller and Notification service software. It will also provide a Highly Available dedicated Networking Connection between Agents and Controller. It is always recommended to have this appliance a dual blade chassis with Active – Active or Active – Passive configuration.
